LEARN THE FOUR KEY PRINCIPLES OF THE TRAUMA SENSITIVE YOGA METHOD. IN A SAFE ENVIRONMENT EXPLORE A RANGE OF PRACTICES TO ENHANCE AN EMBODIED UNDERSTANDING OF HOW YOGA CAN SUPPORT RECOVERY FROM DISTRESS AND TRAUMA

Based on the extensive research studies conducted at the renowned Trauma Centre in the Massachusetts, this course presents the yoga method known as Trauma Sensitive Yoga (TSY). Over four weeks, explore the four key principles of the approach, as well as a suite of simple practices that can be integrated into daily life, other avenues of mental health support, clinical practice, and yoga classes. 

The course runs weekly 6:30-8:00pm, starting on March 31st, 2020 and concluding on April 21st 2020. 

Who is it for?

The course is offered in a safe environment, and is open to everyone, including beginners, experienced practitioners, those with lived experience, those with a general interest in trauma and mental health recovery, as well as health professionals and yoga teachers. 

PROFESSIONALS PLEASE NOTE: for those planning on attending the course as professional development, whether as a yoga teacher or mental health professional, a reminder that this course is intended to be introductory only. This course is not intended to equip you with adequate skills to go on to facilitate specialised trauma-sensitive yoga programs. However, the course will certainly provide a deeper understanding with which to infuse trauma-informed yoga principles into existing professional practice, whether in groups or 1:1 work, and may also inspire further training and practice in the area of yoga to support trauma recovery. Yoga teachers may wish to go on to attend a 1-day Trauma Sensitive Yoga teacher training, or the 50-hour advanced yoga training in Yoga for Trauma, Anxiety, Depression and Body Image

Who's facilitating?

Alongside practising yoga since 1995, teaching since 2003, and completing numerous yoga teacher trainings specialising in adaptive yoga teaching, your facilitator Sarah Ball is also a social worker, eating disorder recovery counsellor, registered senior yoga teacher, and art therapist. She founded the popular 8-week Yoga for Anxiety and Depression course, and Body Love Yoga workshop, and teaches trauma-sensitive yoga and mental health modules on numerous yoga teacher trainings. She is also a member of the teaching team for the Trauma Informed Practice and Mental Health subjects in the Social Work Department at University of Wollongong.
